But [livejournal.com profile] tigerbeard has just vocalised in (a sadly friends-only) post why I dislike Apple and it's products. To sum up he was saying how Apple users tend to focus on the it's not as crap as other systems angle, rather than focus on the positives, and he had a nightmare buying a present card from iTunes from Australia to the UK cos their systems can't cope with it, and had the usual happy fun Customer Support experience from Apple (ie. not very). From my bad customer experiences to my endlessly crashing Nano to my pretty yet mostly useless Mini Mac; to the iYawn, I don't really get the point.

Steve's experience with Apple being monolithic and unhelpful is far from unusual experience - one which proApple people always qualify with 'oh you just had a bad one/day/person' - strange thing is there's a lot of bad days/ones/things and they most often than not usually have Apple's name on it...for the amount of bitching about Microsloth who I far from love, I've personally had no hassle with that company at all, or the hardware I've bought from Sony, Sony Ericson, PC manufacturers, iRiver (mostly), Yamaha, Sharp, Pioneer, Numark etc. to the level I've had from Apple.

But of course, I'm just a Apple hater...*rollseyes*

Sure Macs and iPods have strong points - it's why I have an iPod cos compared to the rivals the software sync just works - but funny that people paper over the bad points to point score. All computers suck in my eyes, but when a company actively made my life hell as a customer witha  defective product, I can't look past that...

(via [personal profile] viridescence ) Yep Facebook is using a tracking system that even logs (or tries to log) what you do even when you're logged off via other sites using the system; it records all manner of info - rather worrying for a site which people entrust their personal info to. And the irony as you can't delete your FB profile is you can't easily opt out of it! Aargh!

More here, here and here - and how to block Facebook Beacon as I have done. I've just posted this link over at Facebook - let's see what happens ;-)

I'm really starting to get ambivalent about FB, I've locked down all the privacy options but the amount that FB is used by news agencies and governments and employers is VERY alarming. At some point I might discontinue my account - not before my Strummer remix LP though ;-)

Suggest and ye definitely shall.

I've had a few people recently DEMANDING or pestering me for certain Radio Clash shows, wanting to know release dates etc, or recently someone sending me an email with:

subject: Space Disco II
body: Please.

being the total message.

This pisses me off. I don't like expectations and/or demands placed upon me for a show I do in my spare time, for no money. It's also why I get antsy about credit on my stuff, cos I know I won't get the fame and fortune ;-) But it always falls flat with me, I tend to want to do the show slower or do the exact opposite.

Note there's a difference between 'When is this show coming out?' Or 'Please stop umming and erring' (yep got both of those in the past) and suggesting that you'd like to hear more Meat Beat Manifesto, or maybe a show on X would be good; or I should check out this tune or this artist. I like those.

It's people asking or expecting and demanding the kind of response that only people paid to do it can fulfil or be expected to fulfil - ultimately I do it for me, and if I don't want to do that I plain won't.

I don't know why people can't see why DEMANDING stuff (and forcefully or rudely) from someone doing this for free, or at the very least asking without giving anything back, is wrong.
