Detroit dereliction

Ever since visiting friends in Detroit (9 mile?, Plymouth although I think they moved or are moving) I've been entranced by the history and dereliction of Detroit. Here in the UK although we have more long-term history, the lack of space means really you don't have the sparse dereliction and empty 'lots' for very long - someone will come and use it at some point, even if it's to run it as a car park, or a second hand furniture warehouse, or storage or the like.
Nothing like this:

I saw some of this but my hosts kept me away from places like this and downtown...probably for good reason unless you have local knowledge, and even then...(via boing boing)
