So I get this not so friendly and curt response from Flickr:

"We're very sorry but you can't.  Flickr has a firm policy on not changing personalized URLs to maintain data, metadata and link integrity."

Bull. Shit. You can maintain 'integrity' of links and data without actually depending on the name ID of the account? Have Flickr never heard of the redirect - the same redirect that means you can read this if you click on timbearcub.livejournal.com? You just have to have built your infrastructure properly, FFS.

So we go to plan 2 -an alternate account, I didn't want to do this as it means brute force copying everything locally to a machine then copying the stuff I want to separate to another account - annoying everyone in the process cos there is 2 account to remember or friend or whatever, but Flickr is shit (also you can't hold a public picture back from your own Photostream without making it private cos, you guessed it 'integrity' - what happened to the integrity of your paying customers?!) so behold:

This is to be my more pro account, where I upload just my best photos, portraits etc. I was unhappy with uploading the holiday pics, Second Life stuff etc to the same account, so I'm separating them. This is the pro shizzle.

Yes another Pro account, The other will lapse in 2010 so if you really feel fond of my Bastard/club photosets, well unless I deem them professional (like the CMP stuff where I was asked to be the photographer) and copy them to my  tough...the photos will probably stay unless I hit some limit for free accounts, but the sets and collections won't. Not archiving all this stuff forever, kiddies.

It's just finished so will start uploading pics to the new account now - I won't delete anything off timbearcub as I have the stuff linked various places, but most of the uploads apart from personal stuff will be to fingertrouble.

BTW I found a great tool to do this - copying/reposting pictures from Flickr account to Flickr account although it can do a load of photo sites - called Migratr - Windows only, and doesn't seem to work with Vista SP1, but works great with XP SP3, hence the XP box chugging along atm. It can post from Flickr to Flickr (you just need to authenticate twice and click 'yes' to the warning' and have enough disk space to download and upload all your pics...but you don't have to reupload them all, you can select sets or delete photos you don't want to upload as I just have.
