Why doesn't Livejournal have a decent search? I want to find something I posted ages ago and probably made friends only....no way of doing it.

That's really stupid.

I've been wondering about that too. What I've been doing is running a site-limited search (just add "site:timbearcub.livejournal.com" to your query) at google instead. It returns results from my "tag" pages. I'm not sure if google indexes pages that aren't tagged. *ignorant shrug*

Try archiving your messages with ljArchive and using that to search them. Unfortunately it can't archive other users' posts, so for searching them you're out of luck.

if you use a client like xjournal (for mac) it downloads all your posts which are search-able. I love xjournal. http://community.livejournal.com/xjournal/profile

It was supposed to be done this year, but is looking more like early-to-mid 2009 now.
