Had a nice meal with Greg from Canada (waves!) and my partner John on Friday...seem to be a lot of talk about HEFCA (sp?), academe and history. I just had a nice meal :-D
Later on me and my straight friend Paige (well if they can do it, why can't I? :-D) and her sis went to THE POKE (yes get your mind of the gutter, not that sort of place altho there was some gay men there, including one cute long-bearded cub; hmm my daddy instincts coming on early?) for the Warp Unnoficial Xmas Rave and listened to DMX KREW and Plaid DJing and some sort of weird techno-carol service where they gave out hymn sheets and sang carols on the dancefloor, to sub-bomtempi cum-sort-of-electronica backings...didn't really work as the guy singing along was about as entertaining as watching paint dry, and the keyboard synthlines teared through your eardrums...now rave-carolling, that might work.
Talking of tearing through your eardrums, Plaid took the stage after Radioactive Man (not bad, played some drum and bass which was cool, esp. mixed with electro...interesting!) and launched into an EVIL DISTORTED TRACK FROM HELL. It was so evil that the crowd started destroying the scenery in response, trying to play ball with the paper lanterns hung artfully from the ceiling and tearing them down.
We left shortly afterward; avoiding the guy who seemed to be on some performance art exchange program (or somw very strange drugs, or maybe it was the music?). Sad really, expected more from Plaid; but they used to be really talented and their recent stuff has been like that track, distorted or derivative shit. Seems to happen after a while, Black Dog (the band they left to form Plaid) also went really generic and obvious, treading on past glory.
And I freezed my butt off getting home, while someone opposite me smoked crack or meth or something (smoking little metal tubes like cigarettes? wtf?) and someone thought it funny to ring the stopping bell all the way home, and the guy next to me feel asleep on me in various uncomfortable (for me) poses.
How I hate buses, night buses doubly so. Why can't we have a 24 hour tube or train service?
