In the Kingdom of the Car

Currently working in the Kingdom of the Car - near Thames Ditton to be exact, although it could be Teddington, North Sheen, Twickenham or parts of Richmond for all that matters. Although densely populated by surburban middle-class semis; the nearest civilisation (ie. cafes, restaurants, people who know what a capuccino is, etc.) is 30 minutes walk away, nearest newsagent and shops is 10.
And those residents of the aforementioned semis have nearly took me out with their cars twice today. It's like when I was working in North Sheen, even the local supermarkets and superstores (and even the other side of the road) was made nearly impenetrable by cars, car parks and the like. Total catering for the car owner zapping the soul out of the area.
I grew up in an area lke this, it's depressing.
One nice thing is that Im staying with John as he lives locally, it's weird seeing him on a Sunday, but had a nice relaxed night, taking him out for dinner tonight. It's almost like we live together (except I'll get serious Net-deprivation shortly due to no phone or Net access!) and ask me on Wednesday if I still feel that way!
Bristol was great, was down there on Thursday for West of Bastard - been meaning to write about it - Phil and Dog's (as in original creators of Dr Pressure) set was camp-tastic and brilliant, and Supercolliders set proved guitars + anything = better, with a great 'metal' version of Pendulum's mix of Voodoo People.
Only down side was that due to arsey management and bouncers, Soundhog's set got cut off early as they decided to close the bar early despite being paid for the night. He'd come from North Wales to play, and was the headliner, so although I'm supposed to play West of Bastard in May (they are skipping April for various reasons) I'm not sure what venue or even what city it's going to be in as the promoters are so pissed off they want to change venue.
Watch this, well Radio Clash blog for more details when I know.
P.S. Radio 1 is SO depressing isn't it? They have it on here and I've been wearing mostly headphones so far (Colin and Edith are on now - PUKE) ...Andy Kershaw's show on Radio 3 was suprisingly good, couldn't be bothered with him while John Peel was alive but since his death sounds like he's widened his playlist from one-legged Somali nose-tootling lesbians. He was playing loads of Ivor Cutler, which was nice. They play too much Bach but some of their other shows are OK. I think I might like some of the digital channels too...
