I knew about the existence of those photos, John pointed out a semi nude Rodin one, I have others from an article about Shaw in the 1992 - probably the last time they did an exhibition of Shaw's pictures in my scrapbook, especially one of him nude sunbathing on a beach. *cough*

I am glad they are digitising the archive though...

As a younger man, gosh he was attractive (although he did have rather strange chicken legs!) You can see why he charmed the ladies (and I suspect at least one case, maybe gentlemen - I mean can you not look at all those posed self portraits and think Wildean Dandy? Hmmm....).



Love to know his opinion on Wilde, as an Irish writer in London at the time....oh I checked on Wikipedia, apparently he was in correspondence with 'Bosie'. Interesting...

I actually wrote a portion of my dissertation on Wilde's public reception both as an artist/celebrity and in the wake of the scandal, so I happen to know this. Shaw was casual friends with Wilde, though he didn't think much of his writing and felt he was taking the theater in the wrong direction. He openly denounced Wilde's persecution, wrote a letter in support of him, and solicited letters from other writers (including Yeats, who declined to support him).

Shaw would certainly have been open to exploring homo possibilities, but I think he was pretty enthusiastic about women. And I've always thought he was very hot in youth and middle age.

No one on my mother's side of the family can pinpoint exactly HOW we're related, but apparently, we're related to GBS in some way.

I tried to get a spycam pic through a knothole, but the angle was all wrong. Next time, when I have more than three minutes to spare, I will ask!
