It's not bad, better than my middle name. I hate when people use the full form or change it and don't use it as I use it...very few people have that right. Always liked the names Derek, Frederick, Charles, George and Bert but I'm none of those.

I've always liked my name. It would be nicer though if I was able to put a Sir in front of it. Sir Thomas Michael Langley. Has a nice ring. :)

When people dink around with your name, you can ignore them. They either stop it, or get cranky. The ones that get cranky are probably people you wouldn't want to deal with, anyway...

I have never cared for either my first or last name.

At some point, I will change both legally.

Why (for both questions?)

I'm not really fond of my last name Baker cos everyone has it and it's the start of the alphabet - so always got picked on at school, by cold callers, etc.

It has it's upsides that on the internet you can get lost in a crowd too though. And I don't think another name would fit me, or I could think of one...would sound, well, false if I heard it.

Always intrigued by why people change their names...I know a few people who have, and although most are open about doing so (like Jeb on here, or my friend Phil/Toby Twinkleboi), a few are not.

The nots I find a little odd...especially when you accidentally find out their real given/family names years after. It's a little unsettling and you wonder what else did they not tell you. In one the case I'm thinking of, there was quite a lot. Makes me a little, well wary?

But that's by the by - more interested in why. It seems some it's family issues, or fame/stagename (I know quite a lot of people who have aliases for DJing/legal reasons - but you know they aren't real names anyway so not totally the same) or just not liking the name. Like some body dysmorphia there does seem to be some name dysmorphia, people wanting to reinvent their identity for some reason. I've never felt that, although I could happily lose my last name, first name would be too weird for me.

Why change both my first and last names?

My first name is Jerry. I never cared for it.

All the Jerrys I knew in school were
girls! I have a girls' name!! Aughhhh!

I am not a "Jerry." Nor am I a "Gerald."

Gerald is the very LAST name I would have wanted!

I am more of a Jack, a Max, or maybe even a Lando. :)

I have heard all manner of weird pronunciations of my name... ugh!

My last name is the name of a family which, for the most part, has treated me like crap. There is nothing to be proud of there.

Maybe I would take George's last name - McClure.. or Parsons, the last name of his father. Perhaps his Mothers' maiden name - Wells.

Maybe even Auburn, the second part of my online name. That was taken from the car of the same name. It is a beautiful car, part of the Auburn-Cord - Duesenberg triumvirat of gorgeous old marques that are all gone now, having not survived the Great Depression.

I used an Auburn for this post's Icon.

Time for something simple and easy to pronounce.

And, I wish to establish my own identity.

I have wanted to change my name since age 7.

So, this is not a whim.
