BlogQuake and Eh? List Bears

Ok they say in space no-one can hear you scream, and the usually the corollary is that on the Net, everyone can.
Not true - somewhere in this little LJ land is apparently (according to
greatbearmd and a very funny post by
bitterlawngnome) is a heated debate about A-list bears. I look around, and sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and the road is empty and the sky is blue. Not even a car, let alone a bear-on-bear karate fist-fight.
Tumbleweed rolls down the road, and a fly lazily buzzes past my head.
I've decided to call this phenomenon something - BlogQuake? LJQuake? It's where you hear the tremors of something but can't see the epicentre, because it's on a friends-only blog or some weird outpost of LJ. You just hear the distant rumbling as if they were on next door neighbours TV late at night.
Now I'm not singling those two out (love both their posts, if I can't actually look over the wall to see what the kerfuffle is about) but ironically this outlines one truth about LJ that you're gonna hate me for saying - yes there is an hierarchy amongst bears on LJ. LJ List Bears? Or maybe just Eh bears?
I think the first class divide is between those who measure value and self-worth by the amount of posts /friends they get, and those that don't care.
Not that it bothers me - this is a fact of life, like the sky is blue and the grass is green. And in LJ terms, being out of the fracas, behind the wall sitting on that warm sunny street with no cars, back to the wooden peeling fence and insects buzzing, well it's just fine by me.

A-list after A-list celebs or A-gays as described by Armistead Maupin (part of the group who included Rock Hudson in California). People who think they are a bear elite.
Thing is, (collective) we put em there and give em that 'power'. Everyone ignore em and they wilt and die...
I won't forget though at Brighton Pride an attitudey bear giving me BS back when I expressed interest while his friends laughed - biggest irony about the (perceived) weak becoming strong and confident then turning on the (perceived) weak? I put them there and I can take it away mWAHAHAAHAHAHAA

Date: 2006-06-23 02:58 am (UTC)As I said before, it's petty shite, especially when viewed as part of a greater whole. I dont create any such lists, except maybe in jest for comic relief, but nothing serious in any way. I feel fortunate to have the friends I do, be they realtime, online or wherever. I dont classify them in any way, they are pretty diverse, and all seem like fantastic folks. Sex? Color? Orientation? Status? Pffft. Matters to me not. I know good people when I see 'em.
Call them all A-list friends, because I dont put them in any less regard.

Date: 2006-06-23 02:59 pm (UTC)Heres to the freaks, misfits, ne'er do wells, the ones who never got chosen for the team, the ones that were too shy to join the party, the ones whose weird dress sense that got them laughed at but then became cool years after they had just done it naturally, the ones who swam against the tide, went against the grain, the pissed-the-beds, the bullied.
The geek will inherit the Earth.
