CK: Conversation Killer - a walkman/MP3 player device. Mine packed up it's batteries and left for the coast earlier today and I was left to listen to the general ambience (or lack of it) on the trains. People talking loudly on mobiles, I'd not mind but the conversations were SO anodyne it made me want to shoot myself. Ditto those people who play music from their mobiles without earphones annoying everyone - look dear, I know you got the phone from your parents because you graduated first from The Special School for Gifted Chavs; but just because you have the facility doesn't mean your retarded cheapbegoldened self needs to use it.
Spaghetti-straight: Straight until got hot, wet and soft. A Rickyism and we went out for pizza after seeing Narnia (more later)
Fatherfelcher: Modern version of MF. Can I swear here? Or would the aggregators go all flustered and pink, and refuse to talk to me again? I SO want this on a t-shirt tho, it's much ruder than Peaches and her FatherF**ker. And more true in my case - I come for your father, not your mother!
Bearphanalia: Oh you know, the caps, the tshirts, pinnys, bear blouses, bear fondue and horse grooming set. All that shite.
So went with the London Bear Movie group to see the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (I subtitled it The Bear the Bitch and The Closet) and it wasn't bad, the social side was cool, Mr Tumnus was a cutey and the casting was very good (even down to Susan being an annoying moany goody-goody). I do think Edmund was queer tho; shunned by the rest; clever and made to wear the women's coat. I felt for him more than the movie did.
There is a moralistic backbone all present and correct and a few puke-worthy Aslan scenes ('toned down'? bollocks!) and you do wonder why the animals like the Beaver who Peter threatens to turn into a hat don't get offended by the fur coats the children wear?
And if all the animals speak, what do they eat? Would you eat it if it spoke?
It wasn't bad tho; it's all as I remember it, even down to the faintly preachy old magic stuff; and the humans lording it over the animals for no reason than being 'Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve' but the battle scene was good and the CG generally good, Ray Winstone and Dawn French and the fawn Mr Tumnus / Lucy relationship stole the show. Peter looks too aryan tho, you have expect him to break into 'The Future Belongs to Me' or something. Oh and Jim Broadbent as the professor was good; he didn't explain that he went into Narnia as a kid tho, is that a later book?
Celebrity spot: Graham Norton going down Dean Street towards Soho chatting on mobile.
Oh and the clock in the new! improved! cheesy-DJ-tastic! Kings Arms is on Narnia-time, it's always 2 O'clock. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, eh? Weird being there after 12am without Willy (may he rest in peace) to chuck us out, or being chucked out, at all.
Kind of nice, almost civilised. An American or European feel to it. I like later opening times.

Date: 2005-12-11 05:19 pm (UTC)She was a real attitudey teenage girl (yes gold hoop earring! check!) and was having an argument with someone else (who initially blamed me because of my earphones, no way can you hear my music via earphones, I check you can't) and then asked her to stop and she got all stroppy about being asked and wouldn't comply because she said this guy was asking her 'rudely' and said that next time she might if asked politely.
So I asked her politely and she still wouldn't.

Date: 2005-12-11 08:10 pm (UTC)Agree with your take on Narnia, and noticed the preachy bit (on my road to recovery from dabblings with a more conservative form of that religion). A good film but perhaps just a little too cheesy for an adult audience. Then again, it was a children's book.
Enjoyed all the chat with the moviegroup, I'll have to make it along again sometime.
