fingertrouble: (killing music in the name of)

Seriously is anyone using YouTube anymore? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7933565.stm already looking for other places for my future videos.

Warners have already hit it hard, if the other music videos go so will the audience - which is the only reason anyone posts to that litigious pile of shit still.

Interestingly though, the blame seems to be on YouTube, whereas PRS and others have sunk other ventures by asking for more money than anyone else - money that the artist never sees anyway. I guess PRS and Warners are just getting greedy - as usual.

I can see other video places now becoming prominent, like Vimeo, Hulu etc.

Yep the music industry hit it where it hurts, themselves. They haven't learned their lesson yet that pissing music fans off with these rules & regulations. Can we say closed record stores & less record sales folks.

I just read that Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins will go to Washington D.C. to testify that radio stations to pay artists the rights to play their recordings.

What's next? Asking MTV, VH-1, BET & cable music channels to pay for play music videos? Like the republican party, they sinking their own ship. Can you imagine this would happened back in the sixties & seventies? Ridiculous.

you mean http://blogs.suntimes.com/derogatis/2009/03/mr_corgan_goes_to_washington.html

Yes radio has to pay royalties on tracks here in the UK and it sucks - one of the suggestions a way back was to make podcasts similarly accountable, I looked into it - it's not so much the cost but the paperwork - you can see why people become pirates when you have to report every song you play in one excel spreadsheet - a song per page...and all the other details (label, cat # etc) - it's a nightmare.

It's why only the BBC has good shows, they have a blanket royalty agreement so can play anything.

Sounds like the record labels want to control what to play or what they shouldn't play. How they going to breakout new aritsts & promote veteran act new material if they going to control radio stations? No wonder U2 is everywhere promting their new CD because they can't trust radio to play it. I think we need to get back to form pirate radio again.

Funny you should mention that - I worked on the promo website :-)

Looking forward to it; shame that in the UK they are raiding and closing down pirates like crazy atm.
