Yeah funny enough I have utmost respect for tim_e_bear for speaking up in that AS thread on badbearprofiles - just looked at it now - some of the threads on badbearprofiles ARE funny, and some are like that one, just REALLY nasty.

I think this post by a view so cruel says it best though:

Trust me, I've been involved in really nasty LJ drama and mockery as well and the best thing is to cut your losses and get on with your netlife. You shouldn't edit your profile simply because a few people in a community make some silly comments. Don't let it get to you, I know it's hard because people can be pretty nasty online. It's easier to be cruel when hiding behind a screen. But the things they said here don't seem half as bad asI've seen people put out there on the net about other people. Believe me when I say you got off very very easy here. Only a few people put forth any mockery.
The best thing to do is just don't let it get to you, it's just the internet and if you're likely to be hurt by the words of others, the best plan is to just ignore it, don't read the thread and communities and so on. And above all, never let people online know they upset you to the point of tears, it will only get worse.
