borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] arthole - funnily enough I was speaking to someone at today about doing a musical influences show, I think I will, charting out my musical influences & history.

1973: Born

1976: Brotherhood of Man, apparently loved 'Save all your Kisses for me' and yes I was only 3!

1981:Bucks Fizz win Eurovision, love them for several years, along via my sister Adam & the Ants, Soft Cell (she had the 7" of Bedsitter - I still have it now) and Depeche Mode

early 80's - older half sister plays Mike Oldfield, ELP and War of the Worlds at me. Decide I don't like prog.

1983: Art of Noise got me into sampling, as well as Sexcrime by Eurythmics (the former is still cool though)

1986: First 7" records and cassette LPs bought: Aha and Spitting Image! Along with Kate Bush and Paul McCartney/Wings best of. And sadly Genesis.

1987 - New Order - True Faith - start to get into New Order as well as house music - love Bomb the Bass and S'Express. Start getting DJ International records (Sterling Void etc.) and buying second hand vinyl...and charity shop KTel comps which 80's bias meant I started buying a lot of retro electro/new romantics/early synth pop too - Heaven 17 etc.

1988 or 89 - get into Kraftwerk I think around this time. Listen to UK and US hiphop, house/rave and baggy - Happy Mondays.

1990: Start making music: mostly influenced by New Order and 808 State & Mc Tunes with Kirk and James. I rap. Badly. Create rave/dance/pop music on Amiga/OctaMED, later on with a synth. Hear LFO's first LP, seems to inspire my Amiga work a lot, getting into warehouse rave tunes, Altern-8 etc.

1990/1: KLF, find Shag Times and various early KLF records at the library, get into White Room. Borrow Substance then go totally crazy for New Order - a band previously I just associated with my sister and John Peel (I actually thought they were out of tune when younger!)

1992: University: Nirvana - realise I like some rock music, first hear Pulp's Lipgloss. Everyone is wearing 'Sheffield Sex City' t-shirts when I get there. First gig: Daisy Chainsaw, terrible, first alcohol too, puts me off both for years. Also get into Radiohead via Creep, visit US at the time and it's massive. First hear Negativland, Aphex, TG and John Zorn.

1993: Joy Division and late Depeche Mode (Black Celebration, and the LP that came out that year). Wear loads of black. Look like a twat.

1993: Regret - New Order buy on day of release...

1994-5: Get in Britpop, first guitar songwriting on 4 track. Realise I definitely can't sing for shit. Love Blur, Pulp but hate Oasis.

2000: See New Order live at Ally Pally, millennium mk 2 gig.

2001: Hear first mashup - Warm Bitch by Girls on Top in Sister Ray record shop. Why didn't I buy that? Went home and fired up Audiogalaxy...Another search for Moldy Peaches accidentally brings up Peaches. Get into Electroclash, eventually see Merril Nisker 3 times, first time in 2002 at a tiny gig at Popstarz attended by 100 people.

2002: Eventually via MP3s find Boomselection and GYBO and thus the UK/world bootleg scene.

2003 - First time I went to Bastard club - somewhere at last I feel home! Start making bootlegs with the encouragement of Don aka blo_up/pirate

2004: DJ slot at San Francisco at Bootie - headlining. Radio Clash podcast starts. DJ in London at various nights and briefly at Bastard.

2005: First long mixes. DJ at Bastard with Fondue Meltdown, the last proper one before the raid closes/restricts it.

2006: DJ at San Fran again, Radio Clash nights, Mutant night. Get back into hiphop & disco again...

A weekend redux - I seem to have picked up a cold or something, hitting the Lemsips...

Friday was John's 60th meal (it's actually today but with no way of calling him, I can't send b-day wishes) at the Lindsay House - very good meal actually, I had gnocchi (err, 3 of them, hail Richard Corrigan and Nouvelle British cuisine) but I didn't feel hungry after the millions of appetizers and the steak I had - the potatoes were amazing, caramelized like the mushrooms but gratin with contrasting fennel so you had this biitersweet thing going on. Not tasted potatoes done like that or that well ever...ane fule can do a good steak, but what separates the w00t from the chaps is good potatoes and mushrooms, only veg I eat but hard to cook really really well.

Saturday I took a trip down to Bristol to go to Eclectic Kettle - a great night were Andrew Herring, DJ Lumpy, Juxtaposeur and the one and only Kid Carpet were playing - real eclectic music in a bar in Bristol but they packed the place out and got it jumping. Have a few pics will post tomorrow when I feel better - batteries were low but I got a few. Weirdest moment was mr Carpet played 99 Red Balloons sending me, Pete and Dog straight back to San Francisco - he then played U Can't Touch This - the 'I'm Rick james Bitch' being the other theme from SF, and of course it samples Superfreak! Pete even played Club Tropicana, although it mostly was hiphop, mashups and slow drum and bass, getting bleepier later...it was paced really well.

Also there was bristle - finally got to meet him - and Dog from Phil n Dog, good to see again. Spent the night at Angus and Phoebe's place aka The Herring House and had breakfast at Pete Juxtaposeur and got to meet his other half and kids...I spent the night at Angus's with two kittens sleeping on me (the closest I'll ever get to pussy I can tell you) - he has two 14month old kittens, Purdey and Presley, incredibly cute...being evil and cat like they knew I was allergic so spent the night making sure I sneezed all the way through...although the sneezes haven't totally stopped so I'm worried that I've got a cold too.

Certainly Bristol and seeing Dog (Ian) again was a great tonic and helped cheer me up...as well as kittens. *achoo*
