Hmm the Scissor Sisters single, although paradoxically played here by XFM (it has about as much indie cred as Liberace) has left me very cold - good hook but far too polished, too slick, something's missing. It sounds a bit too much like a Tina Charles b-side.

The album came out here (18th I think) and I didn't buy it - seems like everyone else is excited but unlike the first LP and those wonderful first 12"s I found on MP3, I just don't feel it. The NME and BBC reviews strangely echo my lack of excitement...so is it second LP syndrome?

So I trotted off to the website to have a listen since there seems to be mass LJ adoration of the LP.

Only 'Ooh' passes the chairdance test so far...hmm it's sounding much of homogenous blancmange (w)hole, a muchness so far, very slick 70's/80's but with very little new 00's added. I can see why they chose 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin' as it least it has a hook, as I can't hear a single here so far....would like to here more of the Other Side than the short clip, but otherwise...hmm. Nothing as good as Take Your Mama Out or Comfortably Numb here.

Maybe it grows, maybe you need to hear more than the clips on the site, but I think I'll leave it til I hear it elsewhere and maybe am more in the mood for it.

'Ooh' could work well, in remix form or the original, that's nice. 'I Can't Decide' sounds intriguing, it almost seems to describe the making of the album/their fame, although the backing sounds a bit too Country Joe and the Fish (OMG it's a rip off of 'What are we fighting For'!) or Muppets for my liking, but that banjo is really getting on my tits. I mean a BANJO?!? FFS.

Rest of the album? As I thought - Meh.

Maybe I'll download it, certainly won't buy it. Even if it does make Babydaddy cry (QXBear?) well he should flippin' well try better then!

Some of you know that I'm putting on not one but 2 nights at the end of October...things are finalised but flyers are not, so I don't want to post too much, apart from if you are around London keep Wednesday 25th and Saturday 28th of October free, as we have free or cheap classic mashup Radio Clash style tunage going on!

But I need a good name for the second night, on the Saturday. Loosely Halloween themed, it's a mashup night but going to be electro/dancey but eclectic in parts...not too far from Radio Clash actually.

But we need a cool name - currently it's going under the name Mutant Pilchards which is a mashup name of the 2 people doing it, is OK but not great.

I want B-movie, I want halloween, 50's cheesy that sort of thing.

Names we have but are discounted or considering:

Frankenboot - already used
Monster Mash - maybe, overused
Monstah Mash - again maybe.
Cease & Desist - already used, not halloween (it doesn't have to be, but it would help)
Radio Pilchard (ditto)

Over to you. Prize is, err...free guestlist if you are in London, or our eternal love and damnation if not.
