I'd heard about patterns encoded in money, so you can't just 'photocopy' a 5 pound note - and if you do the pattern communicates to the copier and it prints mush; or the fine lines and grids create a moire effect. Seems fair enough, you don't really have any right to go photocopy cash.
What I didn't know is that similar technology is in colour laser printers too, and apply to all prints made, which then can be tracked back to the printer it came from.
Spooky stuff. I wish the EFF would print a list of the non-code printers then we could all switch, forcing the printer companies to drop it.
