True, although interesting also meant very scary - the week after I took pics in Tahrir Square tourists were arrested and deported for doing same. One of the few times my look (I always get asked if I'm a muslim, randomly) helped greatly.
But you don't need to travel, in London you get different worlds and cultures a few streets away - although obviously the countryside/suburbs tend to be more uniform, other cities do have really unique stuff going on...although obviously not to the 'culture shock' of not even being able to read the numerals or text (I learned arabic numbers so I could use buses).
