Boredom, it's SO 2006

So on New Year's Day popped out with my friend Doug (*waves*) to go for a drink, thinking that 'hey it's a Sunday but there's a public holiday the next day so stuff is open, right?') and rashly I agreed to meet in the King's Arms.

Those of you who don't know what the KA is like on a Sunday I say one word that can strike dread in the hearts of millions:

Karoake.

The wailing could be heard 10-15 yards down the street down a mobile phone and seems much louder than usual and the bar was packed so I stood outside waiting for Doug. I once had a conversation like this about the Karaoke at the KA:

ME: "I hate Karaoke"
Otherbear: "So do you don't like music?"
ME: "No I love music, that's why I hate it so much!"

Anyway we met up and decided to exit stage left quickly. And don't you know it, despite extended opening hours and it being not a school night, nowhere stayed open late or at all...loads of shut places.

Doug had heard about Dirty Fairy being on at the London Apprentice/333 or whatever it's called this week, and that it was free. Cue long trek to Old Street to find a bored bouncer on the door stopping us and saying '£5 please'

Both of us: "What? It's a free party?!?"

So despite there being LARGE POSTERS on the side of the building saying FREE PARTY (with no small print saying 'until 11pm' or must come in fancy dress or carrying an aardvaark or anything like that. Anyway we arrived early, before 12am and it was supposed to go onto 4am).

Apparently according to friends of Doug there was only 11 people in the place and they closed early just after 12am. Much to the apparent chagrin to those who had just paid £5. Hmm, sounds like a rip off to me?

I wonder why? Dirty Fairy get your SHIT together! That's not on dragging people out to Shoreditch on a promise of a free party when you are actually charging the same price as events down in Vauxhall such as Horse Meat Disco (which we'd have gone to instead). I've briefly known the odd promoter (intentionally briefly) to know this is a shitty trick to play, and probably was intentional. An advertised free party should be a free party right? Grr.

So we refused to go in, wandered around a lot looking for places then went back to Doug and Greg's (*waves again*) place and sampled their hospitality which as always was warm and cuddly, although I was a lazy guest and slept most of the time (I said *most* of the time *grin*)

The lack of open places carried on til the 2nd tho, when I got home. England and London is so depressing at Xmas and NY, with these crazy opening times. Other major cities in Europe do not close down like this over several days, or only open a few hours every day, they just do Xmas evening and NY eve, with some reduction of things on the 25th and 1st, but still hell of a lot more things open than I saw open here on the 2nd.

It's crap, it really is.

Good news is I'm seeing John tonight and have work for the rest of the week! Yipee! (January can be crap for freelancing, y'see).

*shudder* Karaoke at the KA! *shudder*

It's just disturbs me watching 40 yrs old grown men singing S Club 7 songs! Not that I am any better - I sang a Nickleback song once there.

Was very drunk.

I still have a tape of it somewhere.

*shudders even more*
