I didn't read that much jealousy in there - I think management styles in the UK are a lot different from the US, it's more serf vs landed gentry than team leader...British management is generally rubbish, the higher you go.

I know what you mean, I couldn't live with myself living that life though, I see the suited sheep going to work in the city every day and I'm proud that I don't have to wear a suit and can look how I want, within quite wide bounds. With that freedom comes risk; but it's a risk I'd rather take than beholden to the types of people mentioned here and over at b3ta!
