the guy even pulled out the classic 'I'm older than you so I know better / you weren't even born how could you know that' gambit which I thought went out as an argument clincher with the dinosaurs

This usually causes me to cease listening, or indeed caring about anything the person who said it says after it leaves their lips. It grates on me immensely.
