Crazy cool: Tim's Linguistic Detective Agency

Something posted over at GYBO:

Is it me or isn't this current trend I see everywhere of taking one adverb + abstract noun to describe something as the ultimate of something, kind of odd?

Ie:

It's Crazy cool!
Man that's Mad Stupid!

(And probably Sexy Stupid and Mad Cool...)
etc.

Meaning more crazy that crazy, cooler than cool, sort of thing? Kind of self defeating but there you go.

Or am I imagining this piece of (I assume) adolescent linguistic ephemera?

It's driving me mad...with curiosity. Where's it from?
