ZZ Top were most definitely not around, or at least available, in the UK when Zep began or for a few years thereafter. I can understand why Plant's ludicrous lyrics get on your tits because, well...they are shite. But Page's ability to write one killer riff after the other has to be acknowledged. There were more than 'Whole Lotta Love'. Shit - punk was just kids who couldn't play fucking up 'Communication Breakdown'.
Sabbath, maybe.
But, Maiden and Judas Priest? They took maybe two aspects of what Zep came up with and ran with it. And ran with it. And ran with it.
Haven't Priest only recently released a concept album based on Nostradamus? How wanky is that? They don't even have being in the early 70s as an excuse.
Plus all the remaining members of Zep have moved on to do actual new stuff. John Paul Jones with Josh Homme even.
Their influence was huge.
JudasPriest??
Their influence - spandex and idiotic leather wristbands.
Of course, you are entitled to your opinion Tim. Even if it is soooo wrong.
Bumped into Scott the other day. Suggested we all meet before Xmas.
You can hit me then.
